Chaotic Harmony Imports Typography Redesign
I've been friends with the folks at Chaotic Harmony Imports & Events (CHI) for many years now. Not only have I had the fortune to attend conventions with them all over the U.S., but they've asked me to develop some promotional materials through the years as the company has developed and grown.

In 2018 the company had underwent some changes and I was asked to produce some new typography to work with the new logo they had received. The client wanted something a little more dynamic and less minimalist than their previous logo (seen below).
Initially I tried a plain black serif test but added "wing" elements to bring to mind elements of angels to fit the idea of "harmony". When testing this idea with the client they liked the type face I chose but the "wing" elements were seen as too heavy and the "angelic" idea was opposing the feeling they wanted. Their mascot is a sentient lotus flower "monster" and we decided to employ elements that did not detract from that idea.
Eventually I added a second layer of purple behind the type to give it a faux-3D effect which the client enjoyed. The "monster" motif would go on to become a brand staple and is used in other projects as well!
